American Players Theatre
Located
on 110 rolling, wooded acres about four miles
south of Spring Green, American Players Theatre
is one of the most popular outdoor classical
theater companies in the nation, where the
greatest stories ever told unfold in a beautiful
outdoor setting.
The plays of William Shakespeare are the
foundation of APT's repertoire, but the company
also performs the great works of other masters:
George Bernard Shaw, Moliere, Thornton Wilder
and others. For its 28th season, APT will
present Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing,
The Merchant of Venice, and Timon of Athens,
Misalliance by George Bernard Shaw, and The
Night of the Iguana by Tennessee Williams.
The theater is nestled in a naturally acoustical
bowl with sky for a roof and infinite star power
glittering overhead as you watch from your
comfortably cushioned theater seat. It’s also a
civilized oasis in the wilds where you can
browse the air-conditioned gift shop, sip an
excellent glass of wine, savor a gourmet snack.
All of the plays are presented in rotating
repertory with performances Tuesday through
Sunday, including both matinee and evening shows
on Saturdays.
The atmosphere at APT is informal; patrons are
advised to wear comfortable clothes suitable for
an evening outdoors and shoes adequate for the
ten-minute walk up a winding path to the
theatre. A shuttle bus is available before and
after each show for those who prefer to ride.
Facilities for pre-theater dinners on the
grounds are popular in the tree shaded picnic
areas that include gas grills, tables, and a
roomy shelter. Gourmet boxed suppers may be
ordered through the Box Office.
