The Spring Green Literary Festival is sponsoring a Community Read starting in late September and continuing through October. The literary theme chosen is Nature. The book chosen for all to read is the national bestseller Pastoral Song by the British author James Rebanks. Published in 2020, the Times of London named it the nature book of the year. It is a story of farming life over generations, revealing the transformation of agriculture and the farmer's relationship to the land. The book is available on loan at the Spring Green Community Library with a South Central library card and for sale at a discount at Arcadia Books.
The Community Read offers those living in the River Valley an opportunity to have in-depth conversations and discussions about issues such as climate change, pollution, resource depletion and degradation of natural ecosystems. It prompts readers to examine human relationships with the natural world through a variety of book discussions and cultural events, including films, poetry, food and art for all ages during late September and throughout October. The result is a greater awareness of ecological challenges, the need for sustainable practices and the importance of environmental preservation and stewardship of all things wild.
For a calendar of book discussions, October cultural events, and an additional reading list for adults, teens, and kids, find the Spring Green Literary Festival on Facebook or pick up a counter card at the library or local business.
